Since we first told you a few weeks ago about Microsoft’s January 14, 2020, sunsetting of its Windows 7 operating system, we’ve received a lot of questions. To help make things clearer you, we’ve decided to provide some answers to the most frequently asked. Read them below.
What happens if our business continues to use Windows 7?
You can continue to use Windows 7, but once support ends your PC will become even more open to security issues. Windows will continue to operate, but you will stop receiving security and feature updates.
Can we upgrade existing PCs to Windows 10?
Yes, you can upgrade compatible Windows 7 PCs based on certain requirements with a full license. However, to take advantage of the latest hardware, we recommend moving to new machines with Windows 10.
Will Internet Explorer still be supported on Windows 7?
No. Support for Internet Explorer on Windows 7 devices will be discontinued January 14, 2020.
What if we can’t upgrade to Windows 10 in time? Are there alternatives that will keep our systems safe?
Yes. For users of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise, you can purchase Extended Security Updates through January 2023.
