U.S. Internet Corp, Leaked Years of its Customers Emails

In a shocking revelation, U.S. Internet was found to have leaked more than a decade's worth of its internal emails containing sensitive information of thousands of Securance clients. The Minnesota-based Internet provider U.S. Internet Corp. has a business unit called Securence, which specializes in providing filtered, secure email services to businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies worldwide. This breach raises serious concerns about data security and privacy.

According to Krebs on Security, "U.S. Internet was publishing more than a decade’s worth of its internal email — and that of thousands of Securence clients — in plain text out on the Internet and just a click away for anyone with a Web browser. U.S. Internet is a regional ISP that provides fiber and wireless Internet service. ”

How the Leak Occurred

The leak was discovered when a security researcher stumbled upon a public database containing over ten years' worth of email communications between U.S. Internet and Securence customers. The researcher unearthed a public link to a U.S. Internet email server listing more than 6,500 domain names, each with its own clickable link. The exposed emails contained sensitive information such as passwords, account details, and personal communications.

The leak has put thousands of companies at risk of identity theft, phishing attacks, and other cyber threats. The exposed information could be used by malicious actors to compromise the security and privacy of these individuals and organizations.

Protect Your Sensitive Information

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in today's digital age. If you are a customer of Securence or U.S. Internet, it is crucial to take immediate steps to protect your sensitive information. Change your passwords, monitor your accounts for any suspicious activity.

Its important to enlist the help of local IT experts like BKS to assess the extent of the damage and strengthen your defenses against future breaches.

As more and more sensitive information is stored and transmitted online, it is essential for individuals and organizations to prioritize data security and privacy. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and take proactive steps to safeguard your valuable information.
